K.T.S means quality and strength, right down
to the smallest detail

The slewing house is the component through which
all forces act. This is why the K.T.S slewing house is extremely high,
at 290 mm, to increase the distance between the load-carrying bushings.
The greater the distance, the greater the strength, which
is most important when lifting heavy logs or if the crane is to be
fitted with a digging unit. The difference can be seen when comparing
these features with those of other cranes.
The slewing mechanism, crane
post and boom mounts together form a very substantial and strong unit.
The design of the slewing house and cylinders enables the crane to slew
through 370°.
The slewing house is entirely
Swedish-manufactured, from quenched and tempered steel.
The entire slewing mechanism, with
the slewing shaft, gear racks and slewing pistons, runs in an oil bath
for maximum strength.

Look at the matchbox in the picture above, and you will realize the
strength of the slewing house.
All K.T.S Cranes are equipped with the same
slewing house. All that differs is the choice of materials for racks and
pinions, see
specifications.
The K.T.S Comfort Joint on all models greatly
simplifies work
The Comfort Joint
is an additional joint that significantly
increases the motions available,
i.e. the crane can work much more closely inboard. Some manufacturers'
cranes have the hydraulic cylinder connected directly to the boom, which
restricts the angle through which the boom can move.
When loaded with such a crane, the logs are gripped at the middle as
usual in order to provide balance, but they cannot be loaded
sufficiently far forward on the trailer. The grapple has to be released
and moved to a new grapple on the logs, in order to move them forward on
the trailer. The K.T.S Comfort Joint makes it possible for you to
grapple the logs from the ground for direct loading onto the trailer,
without having to re-grip the logs, also making it easier to operate the K.T.S
Crane.

The Comfort Joint also
means you can
lift timber close to the tractor.
Naturally, the K.T.S Crane can slew
through an angle of 370°, enabling it
to reach timber in front of the tractor.
All functions of the K.T.S Crane are double-acting, which
is a prerequisite for digging with the crane. Moreover, it is
most useful with double-acting functions, should the trailer
overturn, so that it has to be raised by means of the crane.

K.T.S Crane 6.3 m |
The K.T.S Comfort Joint simplifies the work, as it allows timber
to be loaded without having to re-grip it. It also means that short 1 m
lengths can be loaded against the gate, which can be useful when, for
example, logs are very large, and have to be cut into 1 m lengths on
order to enable the crane to lift them.
The Comfort Joint also
provides greater flexibility when loading, for example, brushwood.
It also allows the crane
to be folded so that it takes less space.
Outriggers or telescopic support legs
- which are most suitable for you?

The picture shows both telescopic support legs
and outriggers to demonstrate that both alternatives are possible, but
in practice you choose only one of these.
- K.T.S
provides a choice between outrigger legs and telescopic support
legs.
- Both
types have their advantages and drawbacks. With both available, you
can choose which is the best for you.
- Both have
excellent ground clearance when raised/retracted,
thus minimizing the risk of catching in stumps, boulders or shrub
growth.
- Both types
can be extended to some distance below the nominal ground level,
which means that the trailer can be levelled even if a leg happens
to be over a hollow.
- The support legs are secured to the 3-point
adaptor by very substantial bolts, in order to withstand heavy use.
Easy to transfer the crane from the
trailer to the tractor's 3-point hitch

K.T.S believes that it should be
simple to transfer the crane from the trailer to the tractor's 3-point
hitch. Just imagine how useful it is to be
able to use the crane for other purposes, which would not be possible if
it was permanently mounted on the trailer. This means that the crane can
also be used for:
- General
lifting duties at building sites.
- Lifting
fertilizer or seed bags for spring planting.
- Using the crane
to dig with.
- Loading bulk
powders etc. after fitting liner plates in the grapple.
The connection
between the 3-point adaptor and the trailer is a particularly critical
point, carrying heavy loads. Our 3-point adaptor is therefore secured to
the trailer by eight M20 bolts. Using bolts, rather than pins, means
that there is no possibility of wear gradually developing.
The 3-point adaptor is a welded box structure. This ensures that the
forces from the crane are evenly distributed to the support legs and the
trailer chassis.
More intelligent solutions
simplify work and increase strength

All hydraulic cylinders are
mounted above the booms, and all hoses are run inside the booms, thus
protecting them from damage by logs.
Protecting the cylinders reduces breakages and lowers costs.

With the slewing mechanism designed the K.T.S
way, the crane can be turned through 370°.
In combination with the K.T.S design of the drawbar steering of the
trailer, this enables you to reach even logs located in front of the tractor.
Just imagine what an advantage, when the
logs are difficult to reach!
- Drive straight ahead to the logs! It is always
easier than reversing, because you have a better overview, and the
risk of damaging the tractor or growing plants is reduced
considerably.
- Adjust the drawbar steering so that the trailer
will come somewhat outside of the tractor, see picture above.
- Turn the crane to the front and pick up the logs.
- Operation is easier using the K.T.S units.

More intelligent designs and smarter
solutions

-
K.T.S Timber Trailers deliver! Very large loading area!
- 1.8
m2 for the 8.5 ton trailer.
-
2.35 m2 for the 10.0 and 11.0 ton trailers.
-
These are actual measurements. Compare them with the loading
areas of other trailers, but check how the values have been
calculated!
- The loading area is very large, despite
the fact that the total width does not exceed 2.05 m on any
of the models.
Narrower vehicles are easier handled in the forest.
-
Generous ground clearance height increases accessibility.
-
The substantial central frame of 180 x 180 mm special steel
withstands many years' hard work. The diameter of the frame
is more important from a durability point of view than the
thickness of the material. Look at a load chart for KKR
frames and compare! We previously used both
140 x140 and 160 x 160 mm, but a larger centre frame has a
better strength.
-
The bogie position can be changed, to suit different log
lengths, provided the trailer is not equipped with a brake.
- The bogies are of climbing type,
with extra-large wheels, providing good load-carrying
capacity even over wet ground.

The trailer steering cylinders are very
well protected against damage.
The bottom plate protects the entire underside of the cylinders.
As a result, there is less risk of damage, and lower operating
costs.
The steering pivot has been arranged
immediately in front of the carne, which means that the
following components can be made much more substantial:
- The pivot
- The joint
between the 3-point adaptor and the trailer
- The fastenings of the headboard
As the steering pivot can swing through 40°
to either side, manoeuvrability is just as good as if the pivot was
further back.
Should the timber
trailer be equipped with a centre frame or a square frame? An often
asked question is:
why has K.T.S and most other manufacturers chosen a centre frame?
The most important thing for the strength of cranes and trailers is that
the construction can be elastic and moving during work. If the
construction is stiff it will burst eventually.

The centre frame with its front edge
insert attachment has been specially welded-in, so as to avoid any kerfs.
Along its entire length towards the rear there are neither welds nor
bores, which is a condition for maximum strength.
The square frame shows a number of critical
points, such as the attachment between the front edge and the first
transversal frame and all four corners, in particular the foremost,
where cracks easily develop.
A construction with a centre frame also
weighs less, which means that the trailer can carry heavier loads.
More operating areas for the
K.T.S Timber Trailer

Transporting brushwood an a
standard equipped timber trailer means many transports with small loads
each time. More fuel will be used and many extra hours will be spent.
This is why K.T.S has developed
the optional equipment for
loading twice as
much on the trailer. Just think about it -
what will driving back and forth
50 times instead of 100 mean to you?
K.T.S
Timber Trailer may be fitted with brushwood supports which increase the
width of the load to 3
metres. You can also mount a 1.2 m frame extension and an extra bolster,
thus increasing the load volume to the double!

With unloaded trailer you
may easily retract the supports so that the transport width will not
cause a problem.
There is also a brushwood grapple
which has been especially developed and which makes it easier to load
brushwood since the branches will not get stuck in the grapple as easily.
Our cranes may also be equipped with an
auxiliary pump. This is convenient when the crane is used together with
an older tractor with less oil flow, or when the crane is run with
different tractors to avoid mixing of various oils.
With a separate pump you can also
run the crane on a low number of revolutions on the tractor, thus
saving fuel.
There are two
different models: a fixed pump on the draw bar and power outlet
shaft to the tractor or the pump fitted directly on the power outlet
pivot of the tractor. Choose the one that best suits your requirements!
The hydraulic oil tank is situated
in a very low position to prevent it from obstructing visibility. The
tank is equipped with a sight glass to enable a simple oil check. A
return oil filter purifies the oil and protects the pump.

Why should I buy a
K.T.S Hydraulic Crane when so many others are available?
- The
K.T.S transferable 3-point adaptor makes it easy to transfer the
crane between the trailer and the tractor. This enables the crane
to be used for other purposes, e.g. for lifting big bags, loading
fertilisers or for use as a building crane.
- Equip the K.T.S Crane with additional digging equipment and you
get a very useful digging device at a low cost, to perform less
advanced tasks and supplementary work.
- The crane may also be equipped with a cutting head with up to 5.95 m
reach.
- K.T.S creates an additional value to your timber trailer investment
by offering you the possibility of using it for a variety of tasks.
- All K.T.S Cranes are fitted as standard with a K.T.S Comfort
Joint, which considerably simplifies use of the crane and makes
work easier.
- Excellent accessibility - the crane can reach timber in front of
the tractor, close to the headboard or close to the support legs.
- Cast steel slewing house, 290 mm high. This increases the
distance between the bushings, thus increasing the strength
of the crane for use when lifting heavy logs, hard use or when the
crane is fitted with a digging head.
- Choose the height of the crane pillar in order to make the K.T.S
Crane suitable for mounting on tractors, forwarders and trailers
currently on the market.
- Both the boom and the crane arm are made from high-strength
structural steel, for high strength and consistent quality.
- All hydraulic cylinders are mounted on the top of the crane,
with all hydraulic hoses run internally. This avoids the risk of
damage and resulting expensive repairs.
- On the cranes with extensions - the 6.3, 6.7 and 7.5 m cranes -
the inner section moves on adjustable bearings in order to minimise
play and increase strength.
- All pins are over-size in order to withstand high loads.
All joints have either bushings or spherical bearings.
- High lifting capacity of the grapple - suitable for heavy logs.
Note that the K.T.S specification is for the net load in the
grapple, while many other manufacturers indicate the lifting
capacity without a grapple or rotator!
- The very substantial box-section 3-point adaptor is also very
important when the crane is fitted to the tractor's 3-point hitch.
This means that the loading on the tractor's hydraulic arms and link
arms is reduced.
- The fixing point for the support legs is naturally on the centre
line of the crane post, in order to ensure maximum stability of
the crane while loading.
- Full rotation of the rotator.
- Can be fitted with a hydraulic winch, which can also be radio-controlled.
- The grapple is made from Swedish Domex® steel in
order to last longer.
- It is possible to fit plates in the grapple to make it a very
useful grapple bucket.
- Also suitable for use with tractors with limited hydraulic capacity.
- All joints have lubricatable and replaceable bushings or
link bearings.
- Well-established company - K.T.S dates back to 1951 - means
safety for you as a customer.
- K.T.S timber trailers, hydraulic cranes and instruction manuals
are CE certified.
- Considering the above there is really no choice: K.T.S Hydraulic
Cranes!
